Banjaras

Banjaras
Petty traders roving in large caravans that were used for transportation by big merchants. Each caravan of Banjaras was headed by a chief, who represented its members before the state authorities. Peddlers with pack animals, they sold their goods from house to house. Banjaras played a crucial role in the medieval Indian economy by carrying large quantities of grains from countryside to towns as well as to distant destinations and port towns for export overseas.
